SOUTHAMPTON City Council has disputed the Tax Payer Alliance’s figures on the salaries of high ranking officers.

A spokesman said the number of people earning remuneration of more than £100,000 had actually dropped, from seven in 2010-11 to five in 2011-12.

The figure excludes personal contributions to pensions.

The spokesman said: “The council continues to reduce its number of senior managers including those earning over £100,000.

“The figure of 15 in both years is not one we recognise using our audited accounts as the source.

“Redundancy payments are now capped at a maximum and the average payout has been reduced to a fraction of what it once was.”
