POLICE are today hunting an arsonist who set fire to a half-built extension behind a Southampton takeaway.
Firefighters were called to Portswood Road to tackle the fire behind Charcoal Grill yesterday morning.
They doused the flames on the timber framework but the fire could have spread to nearby flats above the shops on Portswood Road.
The alarm was raised by Zulfu Yilmaz, who works at the Charcoal Grill at about 6.45am.
The extension is being built by Mick James, who said: “I was sickened to see my work being destroyed.”
Yesterday scenes-of-crime officers were working gathering clues.
Sgt Stewart Chandler appealed for witnesses and said officers would be studying local CCTV for leads.
