THE funeral of ambulance crash victim Jim Ironside is due to take place today in Bournemouth.

Mr Ironside, a retired Army officer from Everton, near Lymington, had heart trouble and was being taken to Southampton General Hospital when the accident happened on April 26.

The ambulance veered off the A337 near Brockenhurst and smashed into a tree.

It was being driven by ambulance technician Gill Randall, 42, from Blackfield.

She and Mr Ironside, 88, were both killed. Two others in the back of the vehicle were seriously injured.

Police say the ambulance was involved in a minor collision with a car before the fatal crash.

A 25-year-old Brockenhurst man was arrested on suspicion of driving without due care and attention and was bailed until the end of July.
