HAMPSHIRE’S air ambulance will be able to save more lives thanks to a cash boost worth £2,000.

The Barker-Mill Foundation has thrown its support behind Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance’s Minutes Matter Appeal, which aims to raise £1.5m to improve services.

Planned enhancements to the services include longer flying hours, allowing Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance to provide 24 hour cover, and the helicopter will be upgraded to deliver a more comprehensive night-flying service.

The service has also set a target of having a doctor on board every mission by October 2013.

The presence of a specialist trauma doctor makes a huge difference in the outcomes of patients.

John Perry, chief executive of the charity, said: “Without such generosity, we wouldn’t be able to offer this important service.

“Upgrading our service is vital in order to continue providing a high level of support across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.”
