MOVE over X-Factor – there was only one talent show in town yesterday as singers, comedians and bands battled for a cash prize.
Some of Southampton’s finest homegrown talent fought it out to be crowned the winner of this year’s Millbrook’s Got Talent.
A crowd of hundreds watched as nine-year-old Savannah Annell (above) was named the winner of the ever-popular show, held at The Saints pub in Millbrook.
The Beechwood Junior School pupil from Merryoak wowed the audience with her cover of Emeli Sande’s Read All About It and was picked as the champion by a judging panel including Olympian Peter Waterfield, The Delays’ guitarist Aaron Gilbert, The Hiwatts’ Tad Rutherford and talent scout Mandy Driver.
She beat the Silver Orchids (above), Alex and Alison and Justin the Ice Cream Man in the final.
Event organiser and pub landlord Eugene McManus said: “It was a great event, we had a fantastic turnout and a fantastic group of contestants.
“Savannah was always going to be popular being a young girl with a very strong voice.
“To the crowd she was a clear winner, but it was a difficult decision for the judges. In the end I think they made the right one though.”
Last year’s competition was won by 18-yearold beatboxer Ray Ridout f r o m Millbrook, while 16- ye a r- o l d s i n g e r H a r r i s o n Fisher was snapped up by music agents after taking home the 2011 title.
