Detectives have been given more time to question a suspect following the murder of a Hampshire dad.

The 31-year-old was being held by police over the murder of father-of-three Kevin Wyeth in Southampton in the early hours of Saturday.

The man being held by police is from Bournemouth and was arrested on Sunday.

Last night police were given more time to continue questioning him over the death of Mr Wyeth, who was found in an alley in Defender Road, Woolston.

He had suffered severe head, neck and face injuries and died despite efforts by ambulance staff to try to revive him.

A 25-year-old woman from Southampton who was also arrested on suspicion of murder was released without charge.

Yesterday the grieving parents of Mr Wyeth, a groundsman at Saints training ground, paid tribute to their “hard-working” and “loving” son.

In a statement, the mum and dad of spoke of their shock at his sudden death in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Mum Linda and dad Kevin said: “We are, as you'd expect, in shock at Kevin's death.

“Kevin was a good man, hard-working, very sociable and popular within the local community, he was a very loving and devoted father to his three sons.

“He will always be in our hearts and will be sadly missed by all his family and many friends.”
