FAMILIES braved the rain to bring closer the hope of a cure for young diabetics.
Around 400 people took part in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s (JDRF) charity walk around the Royal Victoria Country Park in Netley yesterday.
Many people donned fancy dress or onesies in support of the charity’s Type Onesie campaign.
The walk in its 13th year hopes to raise around £40,000 for the charity which is dedicated to funding research into Type One diabetes.
Many families had personal reasons to take part in either the 2km or 5km trek.
Michelle Wade, from Lordswood, Southampton, was there with daughter Holly, 9, diagnosed with Type One diabetes six months ago, and son Ben, 11.
“I just wanted to be pro-active,”
said Michelle. “It’s quite nice to walk around and meet others and the children get to meet people because they are very isolated.”
Joanne Aymes, 38, from Landford, near West Wellow, and husband Ben were there with daughter Grace, 8, who has Type One diabetes, son Jack, 5, and their grandmother Janet English, 69.
“JDRF offer real hope for a cure and improving the lives of diabetics so we try to support them.”
