A SERIAL bomb hoaxer randomly called an address in Hampshire to make her bogus threat – only to choose a police officer’s home.

Brenda Burton called Christine Plascott at her home after making up a phone number using the Southampton area dialling code.

When she got through she said: “I’m going to bomb your house, get out.”

“I have put a bomb in your house and I am going to blow it up.

But Southampton Crown Court heard that householder was actually a serving police officer.

“She said: ‘Don’t be silly I am a police officer and can get this call traced’,” said prosecutor Jenny Rickman.

“It was quite an unusual circumstance to get a serving police officer on the other end of the line.”

Specialist officers at Hampshire police were able to trace the call to a mental health unit in Northampton, where Burton was a patient being treated for paranoid schizophrenia.

Brenda Burton 32, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to communicating false information.

The court heard how Burton, originally from the Southampton area, had past convictions for hoax calling as well as robbery.

She had been referred to psychiatric hospital, where she made the hoax call while serving an indeterminate sentence for attempted robbery imposed in 2008.

Keely Harvey, defending, said that her client had not targeted the police officer and that it had been a random call.

She added that Burton’s mental health was improving but added that her client was going to be in the “control of the authorities for some time to come”.

Judge Peter Henry imposed a nine-month prison sentence which she will serve after she is discharged from hospital.
