BOTH men and women flexed their muscles to raise cash for charity.

Twenty-one amateur strongmen battled it in a competition raising more than £1,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

The competition was organised by 24-year-old Aaron Page to raise funds for the charity as it has helped support his wife, Mellissa, who is a cystic fibrosis sufferer.

Fish and chip shop manager Aaron, from Bursledon, held the event at Winning Health Solutions in Shirley.

And as well as local amateurs, competitors came from as far afield as Cardiff, London and Sunderland to take part.

Meanwhile in a separate contest organised by Meg Robson, who came ninth in the world Strongwoman over-75kg category, around £800 was raised for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Seventeen women, aged from 19 to 44, competed in the event at the Pilands Wood Centre in Bursledon.

They took on five categories, which included a log press where they had to raise a weighted log above their heads, a dead lift, lifting a weight repeatedly up and down, a frame hold, where they had to lift a weight for as long as they could, a 120kg tyre flip and a sled pull.

There were two categories in the event – one for those weighing under 75kg and another for those weighing over that amount, with different weights to lift.
