THE Winchester Business Improvement District (BID) has launched a new scheme to promote the city’s evening economy.

The BID is sponsoring the Winchester Quiz League, a competition for pubs and clubs around the district that has been running for 25 years.

Chris Turner, BID executive director, said: “Our local pubs are part of the cultural and economic heritage of the city and some have been in existence for hundreds of years. “The quiz league is part of that modern heritage and keeps pubs the interesting and vibrant places they are.”

Peter Byford, league organiser, added: “Winchester Quiz League is pleased to have Winchester BID involved this season and looks forward to the mutual benefits for all.”

BID already has several schemes to support the evening economy, such as Pubwatch, while the city has been awarded a Purple Flag for night-time safety.

As part of the deal, this year’s quiz competitions have been renamed The BID League, The PubWatch Gallon and The Purple Flag Cup.

The Crown & Anchor A Team are current champions but the league is still recruiting and to register visit quizleague.net or email info@quiz league.net.
