ROADWORKS are to begin on the M3 later this month on junctions affecting traffic in and out of Winchester.

Sections of the southbound carriageway will be resurfaced later this week with parts of junction 8 and 9 being worked on.

Guy Watts, Highways Agency project sponsor, said: “We will be resurfacing sections of the M3 to help keep journeys safe and reliable on this busy route. We have planned the work to take place overnight, when traffic flows are lowest, to minimise the disruption to road users.

“Access to and from the southbound Winchester services will be closed when the southbound carriageway is closed. I advise anyone wishing to travel on the M3 or use the southbound Winchester services to plan their journeys in advance.”

All works will be carried out overnight between 10pm and 6am.

The northbound exit slip road will be closed at junction 9 on Monday October 21 and the southbound carriageway will be closed between junction 8 (A303) and junction 9 (A34) on Tuesday October 22. The southbound entry slip road will be closed at junction 9 on Wednesday October 23.

Road users will be directed to follow a fully signed diversion via the A303 and A34 for the carriageway closure or via junction 10 of the M3 for the slip road closures.
