DISABLED and disadvantaged children have the chance to meet their heroes this Christmas thanks to a Southampton charity.

ChariTeas tearoom, in The Marlands shopping centre, will launch the celebrity tree initiative in November to give hope to youngsters who need it most during the festive period.

The tree, which will be outside the fundraising cafe, will be decorated with a variety of Christmas crackers.

Children will be invited to pull a cracker and to be in with a chance of receiving a gift, which will range from meet and greets with celebrities, tickets to watch Saints in the Premier League, or watch a theatre production.

The idea is the brainchild of Adam Gregory, who runs the tearooms and U Support charity with wife Tracey.

The charity was launched in 2003 and has been buying tickets for disabled and disadvantaged children to enjoy a wide array of sporting, cultural and leisure events.

Mr Gregory said: “We have a number of celebrities that want to help disadvantaged children over Christmas.

“Footballers like James Ward-Prowse said he would love to help, and we want to utilise the contacts we have to benefit the children this year.”

The celebrity tree will be outside CharitTeas from November 14. If you would like to nominate a child to benefit from the scheme, pop into U Support or CharitTeas tea rooms call 023 8021 9040 or e-mail info@usupport.org.uk.
