SOUTHAMPTON students are being urged to keep their homes safe after five burglaries last month.

The incidents all took place in the Portswood area, overnight between Wednesday, November 20, and Thursday, November 21.

Homes in Upper Shaftesbury Avenue, Cambridge Road and Portswood Road were hit, with laptops and phones among the items stolen.

Meanwhile, unlocked garden sheds in Ripstone Gardens and Methuen Street were also targeted.

Every incident involved an unsecured property and police are asking students to help them prevent crime.

PC Gail Salley said: “We are doing everything we can to deter burglars through high-visibility patrols and talking to the students themselves. But at the end of the day, if you leave your property unsecured or IT equipment on display in front of windows, you can expect to lose it."

Anyone with information should contact Hampshire police on 101.
