HUNDREDS of people got in the festive spirit at the Portswood Community Safety Fair in Southampton.

The event saw part of St Denys Road next to Trago Lounge closed off to make way for 20 stalls and a variety of Christmas-themed fun for the family.

More than 500 people came along to the six-hour event, which was organised by PCSOs from Portswood police station.

Children left with wide smiles on their faces as 150 presents were handed out and they also met Father Christmas, while many people came along to get crime prevention advice on how to keep safe in the festive season and new year.

Money raised from the event will go back into the community safety fund for Portswood Broadway.
