Thousands of pounds of Christmas club cash stolen from social club
4:45pm Friday 13th December 2013 in News
Police are hunting a woman who stole £2,500 by falsely claiming to be the daughter of a Christmas club saver.
The female fraudster went to Totton Recreation Club and, using the names of a legitimate saver and his daughter, said she had been sent to collect her father's money.
Police say she was given the cash in two envelopes, despite failing to supply any identification.
The woman is described as white, mid to late twenties, very slim and of medium height.
She has blue eyes and short gingery/brown hair which was curly at the front.
She spoke with a local accent and wore black trousers or jeans and a black jumper over a dark mauve V-neck top.
PC Jason Andrews is leading the enquiry.
He said: “The club was busy at the time because of a funeral wake.
“I would like to remind businesses and the general public to ensure identification is requested in situations like this.
"The suspect must have links to the club because she knew the names of the member and his daughter.”
