Daily Echo: Weather warning as Hampshire braces for strong winds Weather warning as Hampshire braces for strong winds

DRIVERS are this afternoon being warned to stay clear of large sections of one of Hampshire's busiest motorways as high winds are forecast for later this afternoon.

The Met Office has issued a yellow alert with forecasters predicting winds of up to 65 mph, starting from 4pm to 11pm along the most southern routes in the south west and south east.

Meanwhile road safety fears have prompted the Highways Agency to advise motorists to avoid the M27 between J8 hear Hedge End and J9 near Locks Heath - an exposed stretch which is vulnerable to bad weather.

Road users driving high-sided vehicles, riding motorcycles or towing any kind of trailer are being urged to check traffic and weather conditions before setting out on journeys.

They are also being advised to pay attention to signs indicated speed restrictions.

Meanwhile ferry passengers are being warned to expect dDelays  on Red Funnel between Southampton and East Cowes, and between Southampton and West Cowes due to dismal weather conditions.

So avoid the motorway and risk a side road with even more risk of falling trees?? Seems a strange warning for general car users, especially on that stretch of motorway, apart from perhaps over the River bridge with the risk of side winds?

Don't they love to control people with their warnings? Bit of bad weather? Stay in the house, batten down your hatches and suspend all normal life.

The second world war would still be going now with the current gang of 'health & safety' types...
