Train strikes fallen tree at Hinton Admiral after a night of strong winds
A TRAIN has hit a fallen tree in Hampshire.
The incident happened at around 9pm this evening near Hinton Admiral.
The South West Trains service that was hit by the tree was on the Brockenhurst to Bournemouth route.
No one was hurt in the incident and engineers are working to remove the debris.
Numerous trees have fallen onto the line throughout the evening.
Passengers faced delays after a tree fell on the line in the area earlier in the evening.
The tree was cleared, but the following train struck a tree in the same area.
Commuters face delays of more than an hour as staff clear the scene.
A spokesperson for the South West Trains-Network Rail Alliance said: "Due to poor weather conditions across the South of England, a number of our train services are currently experiencing delays.
"The conditions are also impacting on other transport providers and road networks across the region.
"Numerous trees have fallen during the evening which are blocking lines. Our staff have been working hard to remove these trees as quickly as possible however there are two locations on the network which are currently being affected.
"The line is currently blocked between Brockenhurst and Bournemouth following a train striking a tree at Hinton Admiral.
"There are no injuries as a result of this incident and we are doing everything we can to remove the debris from the line and transport passengers to their final destinations as quickly as possible.
"On the Exeter line between Axminster and Honiton a fallen tree is causing the line to be blocked. We have staff on site and are doing all we can to remove the debris and reopen the line.
"We are providing taxis wherever possible to convey passengers between stations and passengers can also use First Great Western services on reasonable routes.
"We are working to update passengers through our Twitter feed @sw_trains and our website southwesttrains.co.uk and advise anyone planning to travel to check National Rail Enquiries before travelling.
"We're sorry that the current severe weather conditions are causing disruption to our services. We want to reassure passengers that we're doing everything we can to clear tracks and get our services back to normal as quickly as possible."
