TWO hooded thugs forced their way into a Southampton home and held a terrified family at knifepoint.

They staged their attack at a terraced house in Windermere Avenue, Millbrook, at 10pm on Tuesday.

The pair knocked on the door before forcing their way inside and threatening a 46-year-old man, a 52-year-old woman and a 13-year-old boy with a knife.

They made off with a sage containing a substantial amount of cash, electrical items and documents.

Both men are white, in their early 20s, and about 5ft 11ins tall.

One wore a blue hooded top while his accomplice wore a grey hooded top.

Detective Constable Kate Gillingham said: “This was an ordeal for the family, “We are urgently seeking suspects and potential witnesses.

“We particularly want to hear from anyone who saw two young men carrying a sage in the Windermere Avenue area between 10pm and 10.30pm.”

*Police have arrested a 16-year-old youth on suspicion of aggravated burglary and a17-year-old boy on suspicion of conspiracy to burgle.

Both have been bailed pending further enquiries until March 7.

Witnesses should contact DC Gillingham at Shirley CID on 101.

I don't know the details so this is purely generalising on burglarys of this nature that when a safe (or sage) is stolen that contains large amounts of cash and valuables, it's usually been targetted somehow as somebody's aware it's there.

I know the family this happened to very well & they all work & pay tax, so you're comments are totally untasteful, as for people constantly slagging off Millbrook, everywhere suffers from crime rates in this day & age, once thoughts with the family who suffered this terrible ordeal & I hope the two arrested already are charged & fully punished if gulity, cowards !

Millbrook is a council estate as a general rule... so WHAT??? I know loads of people who either rent privately or now own their council home, where both adults work and pay full rent/mortgage and some had kids at 16 and had 10 in all, some have none.... so easy to pass judgement! My friend got burgled yesterday too in another area, what makes them any different other than they weren't home so thankfully we will never know if they could have been at risk like this. It makes no difference, your home, your family, your belongings..... you would feel the same wherever you lived.
