A WOMAN has died after the car she was driving crashed into a tree.

The collision involved a Toyota Starlet hitting a tree on the A3055 near Ventnor on the Isle of Wight at 4pm yesterday.

According to police a car mounted the kerb near the junction of Park Road and Belgrave Road, the vehicle came to a stop next to a roadside flower display and the driver, a woman, was pronounced dead.

The Isle of Wight Roads Policing Unit has thanked members of the public who tried to save the woman's life at the scene.

Police are in the process of identifying and informing next-of-kin, no other vehicles were involved and no criminal offences were identified.
