RESIDENTS got to grips with a new game on two wheels in the name of charity.

Both disabled and able bodied residents took part in a wheelchair laser tag tournament at Fareham Leisure Centre to raise money towards a Hampshire amputee’s challenge.

Royal Navy veteran Richard Hunt, 43, lost his leg when he was aged 24 after suffering Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy.

He is aiming to kayak 2,300 miles around the UK coastline in April to raise money for the charity which helped him, BLESMA.

This event raised £1,500.

Fourteen teams of six took part watched by 100 spectators.

Players have ten lives and compete on a court the size of a basketball pitch to ‘shoot’ the opposing team with laser guns.

The last person left is the winner. Fareham MP Mark Hoban, record-breaking sailor Geoff Holt and Fareham mayor Susan Bayford were among those to take part and Leisure centre operator Everyone Active allowed organisers to use its main hall for free.

Winners were Outlawed, a team of Gosport residents and led by a PCSO, who beat a team from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Gary Burn, who helped organise the event and founded the activity, said it had been a great atmosphere and raised awareness as people using the centre had also stopped to watch.
