POLICE called to a Hampshire naval base to investigate a suspicious package have confirmed it was a false alarm.
Officers were called out to HMS Collingwood in Fareham and a cordon was set up following the discovery, but on examination they found it was not suspicious.
A Ministry of Defence spokeswoman confirmed the incident, which unfolded at 8.45am this morning, but said it was a false alarm.
A Hampshire Police spokesman said: “Officers from Hampshire Constabulary attended HMS Collingwood in Fareham, this morning..
“This was following a report of a suspicious package being delivered.
“A cordon was set up in the area.
“The package has now been examined and it is not deemed suspicious.”
