POLICE have named a pedestrian who was killed on a busy Hampshire main road.

Alan Cunliffe died when he was in collision with a car in The Avenue, Southampton, shortly after 4pm on Sunday.

The 70-year-old, from Chilworth, was crossing the road close to the junction with Saxholm Way when he was struck by a burgundy Audi A3 travelling north towards Chilworth.

Emergency services took him to Southampton General Hospital but he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

The Audi driver, a 23-year-old from the Bournemouth area was unharmed.

Anyone who witnessed the collision should contact PC Mike Batten at Totton Roads Policing unit on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
