THE BANNED driver who was jailed after causing the hit-and-run death of a Hampshire teenager has lost an appeal against his sentence.

Jade Clark, from Ringwood, died after she was struck by a car driven by Health and safety executive Brian Hampton on the A31 in Dorset last February.

Hampton then embarked on a determined attempt to get away with it including having his car repaired before he was eventually brought to justice by police.

As previously reported Hampton was jailed at Bournemouth Crown Court for six years for causing death by careless driving and perverting the course of justice.

However, he lodged an appeal against the length of the sentence which today was refused by three judges in London's high Court.

They told the 59-year-old from Kent that he deserves every day of the sentence that was handed down to him last September.

Jade was riding her red scooter along the A31 near Ringwood when she was hit from behind by Hampton's Volvo.

Jade's scooter was hooked into the front grille of Hampton's car before being propelled up to 22 metres along the road.

Hampton, a father-of-two briefly stopped at the scene before driving off, leaving the 16-year-old hairdresser exposed to the fast-moving traffic. She was then struck by one or more vehicles and suffered catastrophic head injuries before dying at the scene.

During the trial the court heard how Hampton had previously been disqualified from driving and should not have even been behind the wheel of a car.
