RESIDENTS are being warned of rogue traders operating in Hampshire.

Hampshire County Council’s Trading Standards says that they are cold calling in the Locks Heath area offering to carry out roof repairs.

Trading standards is advising residents not to agree to work instigated through a cold call or leaflet drop.

They advise them to obtain at least three written quotes from reputable businesses or traders who are either members of the Hampshire County Council Trading Standards Buy With Confidence scheme or a recognised trade association.

Traders who agree work at the home of an individual or at a place other than their usual business premises are required by law to provide consumers with a Notice of Right to Cancel, which gives consumers a seven day cooling off period.

Work should not commence until this period has ended unless the consumer agrees in writing.

Anyone with information about cold callers or wanting advice should call 01962 833666.

For help outside of office hours call the police on 101, or if you feel threatened call 999.
