A Southampton chemist has won a prestigious award.
Prof David Spring won the Royal Society of Chemistry Corday-Morgan Prize for his work in the pharmaceutical industry. It is awarded for “the most meritorious contributions to chemistry,” and 47 of the previous winners in the awards have gone on to win Nobel prizes.
Society chief executive Dr Robert Parker said: “Our winners can be very proud to follow in the footsteps of some of the most influential and important chemical scientists in history.”
Prof Spring said: “The pharmaceutical industry is an enormously successful business sector, however, the current challenges facing the industry are unprecedented.
“Foremost among these challenges are the industry’s diminishing revenue forecasts due to the decreasing number of new chemical entity approvals.”
