Barclays Bank to close Portswood Road branch

Daily Echo: Barclays Bank to close Portswood Road branch Barclays Bank to close Portswood Road branch

Banking giant Barclays have announced that they will be closing one of their Southampton branches.

Barclays Bank in Portswood Road is set to close on July 25, customers received a letter stating the decision was part of a review which stated that the bank was not being used as much as it was previously.

It comes after Barclays announced earlier this month that they will be cutting 19,000 jobs nationwide over three years as part of a radical overhaul of its business.

A spokesman for Barclays said the move should not see job losses, as staff will be given the opportunity to work at an alternative branch in the city.

He added that customers will not need to take any action as account details, sort codes, account numbers and direct debits will remain the same – and they are being asked to use the branch in Above Bar.

With more and more people switching to Internet/online banking, there is less requirements for branches.
ATM machines will take deposit of cash and cheques so you can pay in outside any branch 24/7 now.
As long as the remaining banks, continue in Portswood so traders and shop keepers can get change for their tills, then it will not cause a problem.
Hoping that Barclays standby their staff and re-employ them within the local area still.
Everyone was up in arms about the closure of small local post offices all over the place, but in reality after the event, it didn't effect many people. As pensions and benefits switch to more sensible in BANK ACCOUNT credits instead of giro cashing. And local stores stocked stamps in tills for customers to buy
