POLICE have renewed their appeal for witnesses after a man was struck by a car.
He was rushed to Southampton General Hospital while police closed the road for almost two hours to examine the scene.
The 60 year old woman driver was not injured.
The injured pedestrian remains in hospital today for what police now say are not life-threatening injuries.
Some eight police vehicles were parked around the section of road which was closed, with officers directing traffic away from the accident.
It caused rush-hour traffic chaos throughout the city with lengthy delays stretching along The Avenue and Winchester Road as vehicles tried to leave the city via one of Southampton's busiest routes.
The road was closed for two hours as emergency services attended the scene.
Anyone who saw what happened or spotted the pedestrian or vehicle involved prior to the collision can contact PC Stuart Roberts at Totton Roads Policing Unit on 101 or anonymously call the charity Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
