AN investigation is underway after beach huts were destroyed by fire.

A total of three huts on Calshot beach were completely damaged and one suffered partial damage after the fire at around 5.30am today.

Firefighters from Hardley and Hythe used two breathing apparatus, one compressed air foam jet, one hose reel jet, and two high pressure hose reels to extinguish the blaze.

The fire was out by 6.48am.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said the cause is now under investigation.

I took the two pictures of the huts on fire shown here but they don't appear to have been credited to me! I was the only person on the beach at the time of the fire apart from the fire brigade and the police.

Local newspapers can be notoriously bad at this. I have a friend who takes photos of local running events and makes them available via flickr for runners to use free of charge. A local newspaper appropriated one for a junior cross country event and failed to credit him. If it bugs you, get on their case. If nothing else, it's a formality that should be observed.

I think you need to very careful what you post. After the heroics of the Fire Brigade at Gosport, and the death of the member of public in the boating pool, they are up for criticism. But there is a line, just be careful.

Sorry but if my comments offend but I am sick to the high teeth of the fact that the FBU just don't understand that the public support for the fireman is zero.
Yes they do a good job when required but no more than an ambulance driver, paramedic or police officer.

Did you report the fire? Some one else must have called it in. If no others were in the area then you are the prime suspect!

I don't know who reported the fire but it could have been someone from the activity centre or someone on a boat on the Solent. I spoke to a policeman at the scene but he just told me I couldn't go any further and he didn't ask me any questions about when I had noticed the fire!
