  • Dean Paling and Tom Emery were killed in a road crash
  • The incident happened on the B2177 near Boarhunt in December
  • No other vehicles were involved in the crash

The coroner, having listened to all the evidence has now returned a verdict.

He says the deaths were the result of an accident.

All four tyres were below legal tread depth but she doesn't believe this contributed to the crash as it was dry conditions.

As the car was a high performance model with extensive modifications.

PC Saunders could not say why the driver lost control of the car but Saunders said that despite Tom's significant driving experience this car had unique characteristics which even an experienced driver would have needed time to get used to.

No evidence to say what speed it was travelling at but PC Saunders said it was a high speed crash.

She says the car veered onto the verged, passed along the verge, hit a wall which spun it which is when the near side impacted with an oak tree and it rolled onto its roof.

No physical evidence at the scene to suggest third party involvement or animal although because of its rural location the emergence of an animal cannot be ruled out.

No indication that brakes were applied but doesn't mean they were not.

Evidence from PC Tracey Saunders who was called at 11.39 on December 2. Crash was reported at 11.08pm.

She found that the car had collided with a tall tree and ended up on its roof and the damage was most severe to near side of the vehicle.

Road surface was dry and the car was modified.

Crash happened of left sweeping bend.

Statement from Shannon Graves who was in the car with Jamie Craig.

He said from the sound of the exhaust it sounded as if the Mitsubushi Evolution was being driven "very hard" and that he could tell the driver was "trying to test it out".

Statement read out by Jamie Craig who was first at the scene and tried to get response from those inside the car which he found upside down.

The passenger side was so crushed he could only see a pair of jeans.

He tried pouring water over the driver to get a response but got nothing.

It wasn't until the next day after checking Facebook that he realised that his friend Dean Paling was the passenger who had died in the crash he had come across.

A statement was read out to the inquest from a Mr Dale Brogan, who sold the Mitsubushi Evolution involved in the crash to Tom Emery in November, 2013 for £6,800.

Mr Rogan says he told Mr Emery that the rear tyres needed replacing as soon as possible, and that he would need to  take at least a week" to get used to the car before "pushing it".

The patholgist said there were no alcohol or drugs involved.

The pathologist found that Mr Emery suffered multiple injuries following the crash.

Mr Paling suffered severe head injuries.

Both died instantaneously.
