HUNDREDS of children and their families had a whole load of fun at a new disability-friendly play area at a popular Hampshire park.

Thanks to a £175,000 investment at Royal Victoria Country Park in Netley, youngsters can now enjoy up-to-date facilities such as a zip wire, a four-lane slide and a sensory trail at the new woodland park.

Catering for children of all abilities, the new woodland comes after a cash injection from Hampshire County Council. The play area is situated near the park’s cafe.

With two tree houses, platforms connected by walkways, clatter bridges, a climbing net, a trampoline, crawling tunnels, and a climbing wall, there is plenty for families to enjoy.

With a harness attached to it, the zip wire can be used by children of all abilities.

Michele Meek, heritage and community engagement officer, said: “The main idea behind the new play area is to get children of all abilities to use it, so that it is totally accessible.”

Councillor Keith Chapman, Hampshire County Council’s recreation boss said: “There’s something here for children of all ages and abilities. Royal Victoria Country Park is such a valuable heritage site as well and this new play area is sure to encourage more families to discover more about its history and enjoy its beautiful location.”
