HAMPSHIRE stargazers could be set for a glimpse of a dramatic phenomenon in the night sky tomorrow.

A supermoon is expected to take a starring role tomorrow night, and is set to overshadow the annual Perseid meteor shower.

The moon is set to be 14 per cent bigger than a normal full moon, and up to 30 per cent brighter.

The phenomenon is caused by the Moon reaching the point in its orbit where it is closest to the Earth – known as “perigee”.

But the phenomenon could leave skywatchers hoping to get a glimpse of this year’s Perseid meteor shower disappointed as it could be overshadowed by the enlarged moon.

Tomorrow is the second of three opportunities to see a supermoon this year. Another is due on September 9.

What!!!
I think you not only need to check your facts, but also to actually think about what you have written.

14 times bigger lol!

There's going to be a lot of echo readers who will be disappointed tonight while staring skywards at a 14 PERCENT bigger moon.
