MOTORISTS in Hampshire can expect delays today when an abnormal load travels to Southampton Docks.

The shipment of two five metre (16ft) wide coolers are being transferred to the city from near Poole from 10am today and tomorrow.

The convoy will be escorted by Dorset Police to the Hampshire border before continuing to the docks alone.

It will travel from Holton Heath near Poole to the Bakers Arms roundabout before joining the A35 at Upton.

From there it will head on to the A3049 Dorset Way to the Tower Park roundabout, the A3049 to Fleetsbridge, the A349 to Gravel Hill, A341 at Oakley Hill and the A31 into Hampshire.

It will continue to the docks via the M27 without an escort.

It is not known how long it will take to complete the journey.

Dorset police think the abnormal load requires a police escort, but Hampshire police are just "I'm sure everyone will make way, you'll probably be fine."
