PROPOSED changes to a Hampshire park has raised noise fears.

Eastleigh Borough Council wants to install a raised orator’s plinth, three flag poles and acoustic screens, at the Leigh Road Recreation Ground in Eastleigh which would be used for civic events.

But this has led to concern from nearby residents.

Eastleigh Borough Council has received three objections to its plans and a further 18-signature petition against them.

The screens would depict a lion formed from text to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Lions Club in Eastleigh.

They would be placed at the rear of the existing semi-circular seating area in the north east corner of the recreation ground.

Residents have raised objections on the grounds of potential increased noise within the park from speakers and its frequency, but also are concerned that events could block the footpaths in that area of the recreation ground.

However, a council officer’s report said there was no indication that any sound amplifying equipment is intended to be used and acoustic screening would be given by the decorative screens. It recommends that the plans be approved.

Councillors on the Eastleigh Local Area Committee will decide on the plans at a meeting at The Railway Institute, in Romsey Road on September 9 at 7pm.
