THREE illegal immigrants found at two Southampton restaurants are being deported from the UK.

As previously reported by the Daily Echo, Home Office Immigration Enforcement officers visited Jehangir in Winchester Road, and Pride of India in Bedford Place.

Two Bangladeshi men were arrested at Jehangir. One, aged 27, had entered the country illegally while the other, aged 28, was found to have overstayed his visa.

Officers also arrested a 51-year-old man, also a Bangladeshi national, at Pride of India. He too was found to have overstayed his visa.

According to the Home Office the cases of all three men are being progressed and efforts are being made to remove them from the UK.

Both restaurants were served notices warning that civil penalties of up to £10,000 per illegal worker arrested would be imposed unless the employer could demonstrate that the correct right-to-work checks were carried out.

The owner of Jehangir was found not to be liable for the employment of the men arrested at the restaurant, and so no further action will be taken against the business.

A civil penalty of £5,000 has been served on the Pride of India.
