THE legacy of a much-loved Hampshire newsagent will live on after loyal customers planted a memorial in his name.

Choudhry Zishan – who ran four shops in the county – died outside his home above his Eastleigh store.

Now regulars at one of his Southampton newsagents have organised the first of two permanent memorials to the 35-year-old dad, fondly known as Shan to friends and customers.

His family joined residents from the neighbouring Holyrood estate to plant a tree across the road from Isaacs News in Queensway, where he mostly worked.

Customers and friends are now collecting more funds towards the cost of installing a bench bearing his name next to it.

Brother Ali Shan Fayyaz, 31, hailed him as “caring and hard-working” and thanked the community for their kindness.

  • Jonathan McKinley, 22, and Samuel McKinley, 25, both of no fixed address, are due to stand trial at Winchester Crown Court on November 24 accused of Mr Zishan’s murder. Both deny the charges.
