TOURISM is booming in Winchester with the number of visitors rocketing.
Council leader Rob Humby told full Council that new figures showed that numbers had reached 5.5 million in 2013.
The growth in day visitors was rising by nine per cent compared to 6.5 per cent previously.
The value of tourism was a whopping £341 million, £100m or 42 per cent more than in 2008.
Tourism jobs are also at a record 5,350.
Cllr Humby said the success was due to partnership between the city council, East Hampshire District Council, the South Downs National Park and Tourism South East.
