POLICE, lawyers and academics will unite for a conference revealing the devastating impact of crime on victims.
Hampshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Hayes, pictured, is hosting the forum in Southampton on Wednesday.
It focuses on how victims are currently being treated and explores ways to ensure they are placed at the heart of the criminal justice system.
The panel features National Victims Commissioner Baroness Helen Newlove, Crown Prosecution Service representative John Montague, Ministry of Justice victims’ policy head Peter Cawood, Portsmouth University criminology lecturer Dr Jacki Tapley and the county’s chief constable Andy Marsh.
Mr Hayes said: “For a long time we have spoken about the need to place victims at the heart of the criminal justice system but recent high profile cases where victims have been let down suggest that we are still some way off this being the case.”
