Proposals to knock down a former mental health centre in Southampton have been lodged with the city council.

Bedford House in Amoy Street was built in the 1970s and was used as a mental health day centre until 2012, when it was closed by the council.

Culvadene Properties Ltd had applied to knock down the building and replace it with 19 homes earlier this year.

However, the developer withdrew those plans and has now handed in a fresh application for four two-bed and 14 three-bed homes with 19 car parking spaces.

They say the fresh proposals have addressed the concerns of both the council and residents about the height of the proposed properties and other matters.

A decision on the proposals is due by January 28.
