IT promises to be the biggest bang ever.

Tonight thousands of people are expected to fill Mayflower Park for Southampton’s annual fireworks extravaganza.

The Daily Echo-backed spectacular will boast a breathtaking fireworks display by the renowned British pyro-musical champions Pyrotex Fireworks after a fun-filled day of entertainment.

From 3pm, there will be musical acts performing on the Wave 105 stage and there will be a funfair to keep the excitement running for youngsters throughout the day.

Rain has been forecasted for the event but organisers Southampton Round Table No 4 has urged people not to be put off and make their way to Mayflower Park for an incredible evening.

The annual extravaganza attracts a bumper crowd of 15,000 people who are blown away by the spectacular display, which lights up the city’s skyline with dazzling colours.

Thousands of pounds are raised on the night and shared out between local charities.

Chris Tahmasaby, from Southampton Round Table, said the response for tickets has been overwhelming.

He said: “The great news is we have absolutely smashed last year’s online sales. It has been a significant increase on last year.

“It is going to be the biggest event we have ever had and the biggest bang we have ever had.

“There is going to be good local talent on show and interesting live acts. The fun fair looks as good as it ever has been and there will be lots of rides and attractions.”

Mr Tahmasaby warned people to arrive early if they are driving to find a parking space and confirmed tickets will be available for sale on the day at Mayflower Park.

He added: “It’s such a small amount of money for such an incredible amount of value.

“The Southampton Round Table deserves a big shout because it is ten to 15 guys that have lives and businesses but do this because they want to – we are not making money out of it.

“Come out, come in and enjoy it. Know your money is going to the right place and support us.

“Parking will be tricky so it is best to get there early and find a good space in town – public transport will be just as good.”
