ENVIRONMENT officials have issued a flood alert as heavy rain sweeps the south.

A flood alert has been issued between Milford on Sea and Lymington has heavy rain spreads through the area.

A forecast from the Environment Agency said the tide level is high and all tidal defence gates should be closed.

A spokesman said: "At Town Quay Lymington, near the Ship Inn pub, water is expected on the quay and around the parking areas."

National Rail has confirmed there will be delays of 20 mintues of passengers catching trains between Southampton Central and Sailsbury railway stations because of flooding in Dean.

Delays are expected until 4pm.

The flooding has now cleared on the track but passengers can still expect delays.

There are reports of queuing traffic and flooding in Archers Road, Southampton, this afternoon, according to Twitter user Tori Wills (@ToriwillsWills).
