A BLUEPRINT to transform a Hampshire city over the next decade will be unveiled tomorrow.

Ambitious plans to create new jobs, shake up healthcare and curb crime in Southampton will be on show in the city’s art gallery.

It forms part of a scheme called ‘Southampton: city of opportunity where everyone thrives’ and is being spearheaded by Southampton Connect.

The group is made up of representatives from all aspects of city life and is chaired by Southampton City Council’s chief executive Dawn Baxendale.

It will be led by four partnerships the Health and Wellbeing Board, the Safe City Partnership and new organisations Future Southampton and the Employment, Skills, Learning Partnership.

Each of the five organisations will be speaking at the launch event tomorrow which will also include workshops where aspects of the plan and how it will be delivered will be discussed.

Ms Baxendale said: “After months of planning, the launch of the Southampton City Strategy 2015-2025 is a fantastic starting point and gives us plenty to build upon to ensure the city has a bright and prosperous future.

“I am grateful to all who have contributed to its development and the creation of the partnership model which will ensure its delivery.”

A new group will also be launched at the event called Future Southampton and will be chaired by Simon Rhodes, who is managing partner of Trethowans Solicitors LLP.

He said: “Future Southampton was born out of the need to get Southampton focused businesses pulling together more, to drive the city's economic growth, jobs and prosperity.

“It is essential for Southampton to develop a strong economy across all its business sectors.

"The city’s close proximity to a global capital of London’s importance, and its long and distinguished marine and maritime history, are two opportunities to capitalise on, but there are many others as well.

“However, in a difficult economic climate, when many are still feeling the pain of the recent recession, we know we need to play our part in selling our city better and the selling the Solent as a whole. We recognise that partnership working is key to the city’s future success.

“Future Southampton is fully committed to playing its part to ensure that Southampton's twin aims of opportunity and prosperity are fully achieved over the next decade.”

The Employment, Skills and Learning Partnership, which aims to raise aspirations by improving residents’ access to training to help improve their employability will also be launched.

Full details of the plan will be unveiled at the event which runs from 4pm-7pm tomorrow.
