Plans for the future of Southampton were due to be unveiled today.
The 10-year scheme entitled Southampton: City of Opportunity was due to be launched at Southampton City Art Gallery to give people a glimpse into what’s in store for the city over the next decade.
The plans were co-ordinated by Southampton Connect, a group of representatives from across the city chaired by the city council’s chief executive Dawn Baxendale. It will be delivered by four bodies: the Health and Well-being Board, the Safe City Partnership and new organisations Future Southampton and the Employment, Skills, Learning Partnership.
Chairman of Future Southampton and managing partner of Trethowans Solicitors Simon Rhodes said: “Future Southampton was born out of the need to get Southampton-focused businesses pulling together more, to drive the city’s economic growth, jobs and prosperity.
“It is essential for Southampton to develop a strong economy across all its business sectors. Close proximity to London and its long and distinguished maritime history are two opportunities to capitalise on, but there are many others as well.”
