HERE are five things from today's Autumn Statement announcement that could affect people in Hampshire.
- An overhaul of stamp duty, coming into effect at midnight, could see home-buyers save thousands of pounds. People in the county could save £4,000 when they buy a home, and it is hoped it will “reinvigorate” the housing market and could inspire developers to build more homes.
- The £15bn roads investment, announced earlier this week, will see major upgrades on busy routes in Hampshire including the M3, M271, M27 and A31.
- Personal allowance – the amount at which people start paying income tax – will rise to £10,600 in April.
- Fuel duty will be frozen.
- People wanting to study postgraduate degrees at Hampshire’s universities will be able to apply for loans of up to £10,000.
