Emergency services rushed to a Hampshire high street when a car ploughed into the front of a shop.

The blue Vauxhall Astra drove straight into the front window of the Paws in the Forest toy shop in Lyndhurst.

The car was left embedded in the front of the shop, which specialises in selling teddy bears, in the High Street.

Firefighters from Lyndhurst, Totton and Brockenhurst fire stations rushed to the scene to make the building safe.

A total of 17 firefighters attended the scene along with a structural engineer.

It is unclear if anyone was injured in the drama which happened at 10.39pm last night.

The shop is run by Maggie and John Parma.

One man who was immediately at the scene last night was Andy Tipp,49, from Lyndhurst.

He said:"I was in the Fox and Hound pub drinking and I heard a bang and saw it. I have no idea how the driver managed to do it."

Daily Echo:

Maggie Parma, co-owner of Paws in Forest, said: It's been a real disaster for us, especially letting down our customers at this time of year."

"I am happy that nobody was hurt in accident, and the villagers have been very supportive."

The shop which been owner by Maggie and husband Giovanni for the last ten years has lost 75 per cent of its stock, which is worth thousands.

Some of the Hamdcrafted Bears are either damaged by glass or draped in oil.

The couple say they hope they will be back for business as soon as they can, but they don't know how safe the building is.
