MORE than 250 children from special schools and schools with special units across Hampshire came together for a festive musical celebration at Winchester Cathedral.

The event, organised by Hampshire County Council’s Music Service, re-told the nativity story with a modern twist, combining traditional Christmas carols with other songs and readings.

Music was provided by the Baycroft School Brass Band, Fareham, and the Hampshire County Children’s Choir. Hampshire County Council Music Service award holder Connor Bates, 15 from Osborne School, showcased his talents as a violin soloist, and Ella Richardson, from Kings Copse School, provided a piano solo.

Councillor Peter Edgar, executive member for education, said: “This annual celebration is a wonderful way to begin the festive season.

“Hampshire’s Music Service does a fantastic job providing young people with access to opportunities and experiences that help shape their musical talent, and support their personal and educational development. It’s always an inspiration to see them perform.”
