A SAINTS fan looking for love at St Mary's has thanked the club for matching him up with the apple of his eye.

The supporter, known only as Timothy, contacted Southampton FC's official Twitter account asking if they would tell him the name of the “unreal looking” girl, who sits near him in the ground.

The club replied saying this would not be possible due to data protection laws, but nonetheless hatched a matchmaking plan.

Mascot Sammy Saint did his bit for lovestruck Timothy by leaving a rose and Bovril voucher on his seat and wishing him good luck ahead of today's victory over Arsenal.

Daily Echo:

And after the game Timothy tweeted: “Thank you to Southampton FC. She didn't like the Bovril but loved the flowers!”

Following his first tweet to the club following the 3-0 win over Everton fellow fans suggested he “man up” and talk to the girl.

He appeared to take this advice and intended to speak to the object of his affection at Saints' Boxing Day encounter with Chelsea, but his plans were dashed when his car broke down.

But Timothy's New Year seems to have got off to a good start after finally meeting the girl.
