THE final push to roll out superfast broadband across Hampshire will be announced by the Government today.

Culture Secretary Sajid Javid will be in the county today at West Tisted Manor Estate, near Alresford, to hear how remote areas are going to be linked up.

Later he will go to the Ageas Bowl, at West End, to discuss local sport.

Nationally the Government’s rollout of superfast broadband has now reached more than two million homes and businesses, figures published today reveal.

Of these, more than 265,935 properties in the South East are now enjoying access to faster speeds.

The rollout is delivering superfast access – internet speeds greater than 24mbps – to those properties not covered by existing commercial networks and is on track to take superfast access to 95 per cent of the UK by 2017.

Joe Garner, chief executive of Openreach, BT’s local network business, said: “The programme is on schedule and our people continue to work flat-out on connecting those in hard-to-reach areas.”
