THE 100,000th patient at a Hampshire medical centre has been given a special tour to mark the occasion.

Thornhill resident Brian Osler visited Care UK’s Southampton NHS Treatment Centre at Royal South Hants Hospital for shoulder and carpal tunnel operations after enduring pain in his right arm for years.

The builder/engineer had restricted movement in the arm and was unable to sleep properly due to the ongoing discomfort.

But now he is working towards a full recovery after successful operations and follow-up physiotherapy after being referred to the centre by his GP.

He said: “I had been in pain for so many years and, as my shoulder and wrist deteriorated, my sleep became more and more disrupted. I felt worn out and the painkillers just weren’t helping anymore.

“Mr Akbar Baboli, who carried out my shoulder operations, and Mr Vasileios Kefalas, who operated on my carpal tunnel, were wonderful and I was able to go home later the same day.”

He added: “I am able to raise my arm fully, something I have not been able to do for years, and I can put my hand behind my back. I’m on the road to being pain free and I can now sleep again.”

Paula Friend, hospital director, said: “I am delighted that Mr Osler had such a positive experience, and his views certainly reflect the feedback we receive from our patients and visitors.

“Our 100,000th procedure is quite a landmark. I am very proud of my team.”
