A FIANCÉ is cycling 1,000 miles this year to raise money and awareness for Endometriosis UK after his bride-to-be was diagnosed with the hormonal and immune system disease.

Will Little, 26, will be travelling for 12 days across the country from Lands’ End to John O’Groats and has set a target to raise at least £3,000.

The inspiration behind his fundraising mission is his fiancée, Amy Travis, 26, who was diagnosed with endometriosis three years ago after years of suffering.

Will, from Southampton, said: “Amy has now had two surgeries, many investigations and takes a staggering 23 pills a day.

"She has put her much-loved career as a nurse on hold for the time being as her symptoms have worsened and she can no longer take part in so many of the activities we used to enjoy together.

“Amy lives with constant debilitating pain.”

Endometriosis is when the tissue similar to that found in the lining of the womb is discovered in other parts of the body and it breaks down and bleeds each month, but unlike the tissue in the womb, it has no way of leaving the body.

It can cause symptoms like chronic pain, fatigue, heavy, painful periods and fertility problems and, on average, one in ten women battle the condition, which can take up to seven years to diagnose.

Will now hopes that by finishing this challenge in September and creating video blogs about his experience, it will raise awareness so other women don’t face a long struggle to get a diagnosis like Amy did.

The restaurant manager added: “Having watched Amy struggle with getting a diagnosis and being batted around from doctor to doctor over the last four years, I have decided to do this challenge.

“I’m sure it’s going to be a lot harder than I expect.

"Please help me and help women like Amy by sponsoring me to raise awareness of this awful condition that seems to have slipped through the nets of modern medicine.”
