A CONTROVERSIAL housing development could move a step closer when it comes before councillors again.

Plans for 1,400 homes at Boorley Green, near Botley, were given permission back in 2013, but have come before planners to look at whether developers have met certain demands set down when permission was granted that must be completed before any work can start.

These require a scheme to drain surface water, proposals for how to get rid of foul and surface water and a scheme for drainage and disposal of foul water as well as pollution prevention devices.

The plans prompted a mass protest rally through the streets of Botley, with residents fearing the impact on infrastructure, traffic and the character of the village.

Campaigners launched a year- long legal battle to try to get Eastleigh Borough Council’s decision to allow the homes to be looked at again, but despite winning the right to a judicial review their arguments were not enough to persuade a High Court judge, who threw out the case.

Members of the Hedge End, West End and Botley Local Area Committee will today look at what is proposed to meet the requirements and decide whether delegate officers should approve that the conditions have been met at a meeting at the Hedge End 2000 Centre, in St John’s Road, at 7pm.
